Laos 1–1 Myanmar | International Friendly

Venue: National Stadium, Vientiane  |  Attendance: Approx. 8,000

A spirited display from the Lao national side earned them a creditable draw against Myanmar in an entertaining friendly match played under floodlights at the National Stadium in Vientiane. Both teams showed plenty of intent, and the result reflected an even contest that could have gone either way in the final quarter.

First Half

Laos started brightly, pressing high and looking to win the ball in Myanmar's half during the early exchanges. The hosts created the better chances in the opening 20 minutes, with their wide forwards causing problems behind Myanmar's fullbacks. A well-worked move down the right flank led to the opening goal just before the half-hour mark, the striker converting coolly from close range after a low cross found him unmarked at the back post.

Myanmar responded well, and their technical quality in the middle of the park allowed them to gradually take control of possession. An equaliser came just before half-time when a free kick from the edge of the area was struck cleanly and left the Lao keeper with no chance.

Second Half

The second period was more open, with both sides committing more players forward. Laos's best chance came midway through the half when a counter-attack carved Myanmar open, but the resulting shot was well saved by the opposition goalkeeper. Myanmar had a penalty claim waved away in the closing stages, which sparked a brief flurry of protest but the referee stood firm.
